DIE jong basketbal-ster, Kyle Louw, kan as inspirasie vir menige sportster dien. Die 17-jarige Louw het vroeër vanjaar vir die Suid-Afrikaanse senior-rolstoel span aan toernooie in Duitsland en België deelgeneem.

Die span was in sewe wedstryde in aksie en kon ongelukkig net in een as oorwinnaar uit die stryd tree. Suid-Afrika, wat tans die negende posisie op die wêreldranglys beklee, het met slegs vyf punte teen die vyfde gekeurde Duitsland die onderspit gedelf.

Die leerling van Martie du Plessis in Bloemfontein het ook die Suid-Afrikaanse o.23-span vanjaar in vier wedstryde verteenwoordig. Louw het nege van sy span se punte in die laaste kragmeting aangeteken. Die meeste deur ’n speler in sy span. Dit is merkwaardig vir ’n speler wat eers in 2006 aan die sport begin deelneem het.

“Ek sal graag saam met die nasionale span eendag aan die Paralimpiese Spele wil gaan deelneem,” het Louw oor sy doelwitte in die toekoms uitgebrei. Sy rolmodel is Markus Retief wat ook vir die nasionale span speel.

Louw was ook lid van die nasionale senior-span wat ’n silwer medalje op die Afrika-kampioenskap verower het. Die Suid-Afrikaners het teen Algerië in die eindstryd verloor.
Ernesta en Magdaleen Strydom het hom aan die sport bekend gestel. “Ek het een middag saam Magdaleen na die basketbal toe gegaan,” het Louw gesê.

Louw is een van die gestremde sportsterre wat Donderdag net buite Bloemfontein op die Illanga-landgoed deur die Vrystaatse Sportmedia vir hulle prestasies vereer word.
